“I vacuumed the office today ☺”, This text was sent to us by our 67-year-old Janitor. It’s safe to say that emojis do not prejudice with ageism, they are used and well-loved by people of all ages. Well, this text accelerated a deep conversation within our team which inspired us to write about it. We are sure you are aware of what dynamic phenomenon emojis have become. During the early stages of adoption, emojis were used as a means of self-expression. Today, however, they showcase and complement business ideas in ways that we could not have imagined a decade back. There are thousands of theses available on the effects of emojis on various facets of life. With a hint of creativity and a dash of emojis, you have the perfect concoction of storytelling and personality!

There is a universal debate on whether emojis are an ethical way to communicate professionally. If you look into the statistics, you will see that 61% of employees use emojis at work. Despite the modern outlook on the industry, emojis are still looked down upon by many professionals. It is subjective to a professional’s opinion at the end of the day. What ultimately weighs are the type of emojis used and the intention behind them.

You may have seen successful emoji-based campaigns by McDonald’s, Taco Bell, Volkswagen, and many other brands. Companies use emojis to complement their campaigns, as they’re in sync with the personality and helps consumers connect better. There are no bounds to creativity with emojis, you can convey any complex message. A very thoughtful series of emojis were put out by Apple to be inclusive of people with disabilities. You will find emojis for prosthetic limbs, ears with hearing aids, people walking with a cane, service dogs, etc in any apple products.

Emojis sometimes convey emotions that words can not. Imagine receiving a text from your boss after a long week of vacation “ Kindly return to work tomorrow”, this sounds a little intimidating. Now imagine getting a text “Kindly return to work tomorrow. ☺”, well this sure sounds a lot better! Right? The intention stays constant but the conveyed feelings may vary. Emojis are not fully capable of being used on their own but they sure can add a touch of spice to reinforce your message.

Well to sum it up, emojis are an easy yet effective way of sprinkling some personal touch onto your messaging. Got a doubt? Just pull up your phone and send your loved one a text with emoji and another without and see for yourself what gets a better response. But before you go do so, Write to us at Marketing@Apric.in to let us know what your favourite emoji is and why you love it!
